Hello! My name is Dequiana Jackson. I’m a holistic business coach and marketing strategist that helps high-achieving women entrepreneurs get out of their way to create a business they love.
You’ve already been successful, whether it was in your corporate job, a non-profit or a previous business. You’ve done it once and will do it again! Just because you’re rebuilding doesn’t mean you’re a beginner. Don’t forget your past success or what got you to this point. It all means something.
Together, we’ll brand you as the expert you already are so you can achieve the time freedom and financial stability you desire.
Why I Want to Help You
I believe we all have an inner fire just waiting to burst through, and when we find it, we can use that passion to start and grow our business. Unfortunately, excitement won’t get you far without good business skills and solid small business marketing strategies. I teach current and aspiring women entrepreneurs the marketing fundamentals they need to set a solid foundation for their business. It’s disheartening to see entrepreneurs with no clear client, message or service get sucked into the latest marketing tactics, and then fail because they don’t have those basics down, losing time, money and momentum.
I want to help you understand the mission/vision/value of your business, who your ideal client is, how to design packages for those clients and how to speak about your businesses in a way that would be attractive to potential buyers. We’ll even work on that inner critic that tells you that you shouldn’t be doing this in the first place and then get down to branding and marketing basics.
Investing in things like Facebook ads, expensive websites and the latest guru’s how-to succeed on X new social media platform WITHOUT having the fundamentals of marketing and branding down is like spinning in a circle and then throwing a dart at a target blindfolded. Sure, you may hit the target sometimes. Most of the time, you’ll probably hit the unsuspecting guy in the corner. Don’t hit that guy.
I’ve Been Where You Are
A few years ago, I could identify with each of these scenarios. Can you?
- I did everything “right:” went to a great school, got the career I thought I wanted and even got a good salary, but I’m still not happy.
- I know I was put on this earth to make a difference. I have a purpose, but I don’t think I’m living it. I know I should be doing something different, but I’m stuck, and I need a plan.
- I have a passion to serve, but I’ve worked my whole life to get to this point in my career. Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but I know there’s got to be more to life than this.
My whole life I was told to go to college, go to grad school and get a good job, so that’s what I did. I got an undergrad degree and an MBA from the University of Chicago and worked in brand management for a top consumer packaged goods company, with two daughters in tow. From the outside looking in, I had it all. I wasn’t even 30 years old and already had a prestigious job, a top salary, a big house. I even had a dog, but there was something missing. I tried convincing myself that I loved my job and was crazy for wishing to do anything else, but deep down I knew the truth.
When you step back and really take a look at your life, how do you feel and how are you coping with it? Are you unhappy? Do you dread going to work? I remember a few of my coworkers and I literally cried in the parking lot before work because we didn’t want to go in. The stress was unbearable some days. Do you drown your sorrows in things like shopping, joining a bunch of organizations to occupy your time, serial dating or even vegging out on the couch doing nothing every weekend because that’s all the energy you have left?
If so, these are only symptoms of a much bigger problem: You’re letting your inner critic scare you out of pursuing your dreams. It’s telling you that you’ll never be as successful in your business as you’ve been in your traditional job, that no one will buy from you, that you better stay put where it’s safe.
Even as you dip your toes into entrepreneurship, you’re so worried about failing that you’re not being authentic in your messaging. Instead, you are emulating the entrepreneurs you see online or read about (Hey, if it worked for them, it can work for you, right? Wrong). Stop it. You’re amazing, and your clients want you, your authentic self to show up!
If you are not fully showing up in your business, you will not get the results you want. Until then, things won’t quite fit. Changing jobs won’t help because you’ll still be working off of a plan rooted in fear and hesitation, your plan, not God’s plan (or whatever higher power you ascribe to). This leads to frustration and will forever have you feeling like you’re a round peg being shoved into a square hole. You might even find yourself staring in the mirror at work wondering, “What am I doing here?” Then you remember the nice paycheck and all the time you’ve put in to get to this point in your career, suck it up and head off to the next meeting … still unhappy but pressing on. I did the same thing until a shift happened.
I knew I was put on this earth to make a difference in the lives of women, so I stepped out on faith, left corporate America and embarked on a career path I now love. Believe me, going back into entrepreneurship was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself. It wasn’t always easy (still isn’t some days). There are growing pains, but in the end, it’s been worth it. I even like Mondays again. 🙂
You can do the same thing I did.
You don’t have to keep living like this.
You are never in too deep or too old to change direction, even if you’ve been on that path your whole life. And you don’t even have to quit your job. We can build something on the side right where you’re at.
It’s time to exercise your faith, and I can help.
